BC Cup logo The Tigers and Manchester Phoenix have qualified for the final stages of the British Challenge Cup after building unassailable leads at the top of the northern standings.

Saturday night’s 12-1 win at Solway Sharks, and the 7-4 success at home to Peterborough Phantoms on Sunday, saw Telford take over top spot from Manchester.

Neither side can be caught by the chasing pack in the race for the semi-finals - Sheffield Steeldogs are five points adrift with just two games left to play.

An anxiety provoking final minute saw the visiting Manchester Phoenix score a pair of powerplay goals, but, fortunately for Spectrum’s men, a 3 goal lead earlier in the frame was just enough to hang on to a 4-3 home ice win.  On Sunday, Sam Godfrey scored his first ever goal in a Flames uniform and James Hadfield allowed just a single as Spectrum’s men visited Invicta Dynamos and came away with a 9-1 win in the Southern group of Cup competition.

The Guildford Flames ice hockey club have released Curtis Huppe.  The 6’1”, 200lb forward joined the side in 2011-2012 when he iced 39 times, scoring 31 goals and adding 26 assists for his part in the first of back to back League and Cup title captures.  He followed that up during the trophy retention season with a 98 point showing that included a club leading 59 goals.  Last term, mid season surgery limited Huppe to just 10 games, and since his return to health this year, his 4th with the side, he has iced 7 times, scoring 4 goals and 2 assists.  In 116 career Flames starts, the 35 year old had 168 points from 98 goals and 70 assists.
