Manchester Phoenix logo The Manchester Phoenix has moved quickly to sign 30 year old, 6”4 Czech forward Vaclav Meidl, after releasing Jakub Langhammer earlier in the week.

Meidl, who can play centre or left wing, grew up in Prostejov in the Czech Republic and iced for their junior teams, as well as representing Zlin, Trinec and Havirov during his junior career. Vaclav also got a taste of international experience with the Czech U18s, and later the Czech U20s.

In 2003, Vaclav Meidl moved to North America, where he spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, splitting his time between the Plymouth Whalers, Saginaw Spirit and the Oshawa Generals. During this time, Vaclav was drafted in the third round of the 2004 draft by the Nashville Predators.

Meidl returned to the Czech Republic for the 2006-07 season, where he iced for Znojemsti Orli in the Extraliga for three seasons. He has since gone onto represent a number of Extraliga and Czech 2 sides, including playing alongside Robin Kovar at Slovan Ústečtí Lvi during the 2012-13 season.

Vaclav began this campaign with AZ Havirov in Czech 2 before electing to make the move to England.

Coach Hand this to say on the signing: “We had a bit of luck finding Vaclav available so late into the season. He has an excellent pedigree and has North American experience as well. He will fit nicely into the lines as we look to get a winning run going in the league.”

He will be available for this weekend’s games against the Bracknell Bees and Peterborough Phantoms.
