24/02/17 After 25 successful seasons, including 19 trophies from 6 League, 5 Playoff, 7 Cups and a Conference title, the Flames will, for the first time in its history, ice at the top level of British Ice Hockey with a move to become the 12th team in the Elite Ice Hockey League next season.
The move from the English Premier League was ratified at an EIHL meeting earlier in the week.

The Guildford Flames ice hockey club have signed Finnish veteran forward Kari Sihvonen. The 5’11”, 205lb skater began this season at Swedish Division 1 outfit Kristianstads IK where he iced in 18 games while recording 5 goals and 7 points. The 33 year old had 15 points during his 45 game full season stay last season with Allsvenskan side Tingsryds AIF.

Ben Campbell’s 2nd period natural Hat Trick injected a little excitement into the game when he helped bring the Flames within a goal after trailing 5-0, but a show of Telford Tigers offence in reply lifted them to a 9-4 win at Spectrum. In the road follow up, Sheffield’s lone penalty goal was the final blow in a heart-breaking ending that saw the Yorkshire side pull their netminder and bag the tying mark just 4 seconds from close as the Steeldogs collected a 5-4 success on home ice.

Mike Will made his first start of the season and saved all but a single while Marek Maslonka returned from injury to post a 4 point night during a 7-1 win at Manchester Phoenix. Upon a return to home ice the following evening, Michal Satek and Ben Campbell each had 4 points, and a table point was secured, but the season’s run of bad luck beyond regulation continued when the Milton Keynes Lightning secured a 6-5 win to hand the Flames a league leading 5th heartbreaker during tiebreaking measures.
