Guildford Flames logoStuart Potts will spend a 7th consecutive season wearing the colours of the Guildford Flames ice hockey club. The 28 year old forward arrived in Surrey during the off season of 2004 from the British National League’s Findus Cup champion Newcastle Vipers.

The 5’7”, 175 centre iceman had 15 goals and 34 assists for his part in the Premier Cup winning haul. The Durham native has posted 50+ point terms on two occasions. With the 2006-2007 edition of the club he netted 21 times and finished with 52 points. That preceded his best statistical output during the following season’s league title capture when he finished 3rd among point getters with a 77 point showing. In addition to the most recent Premier Cup, and the 2007-2008 league title, Potts was on hand for the 2005-2006 English Premier League title and the 2007 Cup success.

He opened his senior account during the 2000-2001 season when he skated with the Superleague Newcastle Jesters. He moved on to stops the following term with Milton Keynes Kings and Cardiff Devils before returning to Newcastle, this time with the Vipers, where he stayed until taking his current post with Spectrum’s outfit. His junior series culminated with a selection to Team Great Britain when he travelled with the club to the world junior championships in 2002.

Paul Dixon was pleased to invite the centre iceman back to the club:

“We are glad that Stuart has agreed to return to the side. He does a lot of good things that are not recognized by the most popular ice hockey statistical measures. He is an outstanding penalty killer, a good face off taker, and responsible defensive forward. In addition, though, he continues to chip in offensively which is a contribution that we expect from a player with his particular skill set. We know he is working hard on his off season fitness preparations, and we are looking forward to the input that he will have on our drive to return to league champion status.”

Do you think coaches should get a 2 game ban when their team reaches 50 penalty points?
