Guildford Flames logoThe English Premier Ice Hockey league’s 10 member clubs, including the newest member Telford Tigers, have released the 2010-2011 fixtures. The Flames will open play with a local derby challenge weekend concluding with a game at Guildford Spectrum on Sunday, September 12th at 6pm against Basingstoke Bison to follow up a trip to Hampshire 24 hours earlier. The reigning Premier Cup champions will begin their defence, and the search for a league crown, at home on Saturday, September 18th at 6pm against Bracknell Bees before setting off to Sheffield the following night.

Competition structure will remain unchanged for the new campaign. The league regular season will take place over a 54 game set. Each team will play each opponent on 6 occasions, 3 home and 3 away. The first home and away league games against each contestant will also be Premier Cup matches, and will count for double points; 2 points for the Cup table and 2 for the league table. The Premier Cup will, therefore, be an 18 game group round. The top 4 teams from the combined Cup/League matches will advance to the Cup semi finals, which will be staged on a home and away two leg aggregate basis. The winners of the semi finals will compete in the two leg aggregate Premier cup Final which the Surrey outfit won last season by turning over Milton Keynes Lighting with a 10-4 aggregate score.

At the conclusion of the 54 game schedule, the league champions will join the 2nd through 8th place clubs in the playoff quarter finals on the weekend of April 2nd and 3rd, 2011. Each quarter final will be an aggregate two leg home and away weekend with the winners advancing to the playoff finals weekend in Coventry on April 9th and 10th.

The Playoff quarter finals will be played on the basis of the final league table standings on the following basis:

1st place v 8th place

2nd place v 7th place

3rd place v 6th place

4th place v 5th place

The top seeded team in each quarter final will earn the right to choose their home leg quarter final date.

Do you think coaches should get a 2 game ban when their team reaches 50 penalty points?
